Awesome, I will definitely try make it tomorrow. My only preference would be that it's scheduled closer to the middle of the week so it's spaced out between Balboa sessions. Although, for 7 bucks for 2 1/2 hours, I'm cool with any day. Good deal! Hopefully I will find a ride.

I had a great time last night. It was so awesome having the gym all to ourselves. Daniel led us in a nice warmup and we pretty much broke off to work on whatever we wanted, though we had an injury early on that put a mild damper on things.

We did some alternating passes across the floor such as high-knee's, a grapevine, stepping movement, an exaggerated step in which you try to kick your butt with your heel when you step and some full on sprints. We also did some stretching, a lot of dynamic stretches that I wasn't familiar with as well as some calf and hamstring stretches.

We setup a block to work on vaults and a girl, I'm not sure of her name, came down out of a cat pass, injuring her knee. She sat out but was in better spirits by the end of the night... I hope it's not too serious.

I'm going to try to make it. I might have to work until 730 or 8 tonight though but I'll do my best to be there. I'd hate to miss it.

I have never tried parkour however I am very much interested in learning more. Is there any formal training offered at the PK open gym nights? Are beginners welcome?
Cheers!

welcome to the parkour community ryhalvey. beginners are always welcome, we were all such at some time. to think, most of my 'formal' training came from youtube, anything you can learn from people at the gym sessions or balboa meets is great. do what you can to show up at a meet, you'll find lots of people ready and willing to show you anything youd like to learn. hope to see you soon bro!

P.S. i loved the gym session and my flips are getting better, see you guys on the 2nd hopefully

Welcome ryhalvey!

The PK Open Gym nights are great for experimentation and all levels are welcome. One thing to understand though is that Parkour is a personal journey and it doesnt just happen in a gym. While many places are starting to offer classes, you will benefit greatly from getting out on your own and becoming familiar with your own body and natural movements.

Aside from this PK Open gym session, we have Weekend Jams at Balboa Park(everyone is welcome) and a few other Open Gyms during the week that allow Parkour.

You can find people willing to help and teach you at any one of these sessions without the need for any formalized instruction. There is a lot of info on this site so read everything you can get your hands on.

Dont be afraid to ask questions!
