I actually want to learn more tricks. Any more body awareness would be helpful for me, but i don't go to gym sessions very much and I don't know very many people who trick so it's hard to learn. I can back tuck and front tuck into my pool, and im still trying to gainer haha

ya same here lol. learning has been going slow for me cause i do all my stuff on grass, not padded mats or nething. so i can only get 4-5 failed fronts before i have to limp away lol.

ditto. I personally have an inner conflict when I think about myself going to a gym and practicing with mats and soft surfaces. I just don't want to fool myself into thinking that if I mess up there is a foam pit in the park :X

Alright, i don't reccomend trying to flip without padding, especially if you don't have experience...It's all about advancing...Start off in a foam pit..Once comfortable, off a vault block onto a mat...Once confident enough, try without the mat and just the springboarded ground...THEN grass and concrete;)

Doing that won't give you the feeling that there better be a mat to fall on 'cause you already know you have the technique down...And also have someone more experienced "spot" you on flips, or just critique on form...
Never do something you don't trust yourself to do, as MAJOR injuries can occur (obviously:)
And make sure you are well stretched and not nervous...This is how i've made it far enough to the point of no real injury after about 4 months of front tucks, sideflips, gainers, and backs.
@stumpy...You wouldn't be limping if you had mats to train on. Realize that if you can do it good on a mat, you can do it good on grass;)
Pe@cE

cant do it on a mat :( cause i got no mat :P i just find soft grass, and go for it. ive never caused ne serious injury, and even the limp home thing was just an exageration. ive never hurt myself beyond the point of limping for a few minutes or so doing basic fronts and stuff. (almost there lol)
but yeah, even if i can find a tramp im sure it would help tons :)

OVER ROTATING SUCKS!!!! 2 days ago I(since I do Free running and parkour) was practicing my wall flips on a tree at my little brothers school (funny huh) and for some reason i tucked (which i usually don't) and over rotated. I landed flat on my back. Some how i bruised my tail bone and my head smashed into the ground. i still have whip lash from it and it hurts so bad to turn my neck. haha so ive learned my lesson not to tuck cause i have so much speed when rotating :'( o well.

@Tcat Yeah, That's how i started out. front flips are my specialty and side flips are my worst. Any thing in particular? tucking in helps speed up rotation.
@FogDog To solve over rotating, such as over a pool or something high up, about 75% way through the flip, kick your feet out straight, which works best on front flips. Or before you do the flip, jump off one leg if you're comfortable. and listen to Tcat and follow up with a roll.

No regrets, no whining, no cowardice. Do it with pride. ^-^

Jumping off of one leg is a webster...Not a flip i advise for starters...as for the 75% untucking, first they need to get their "air-sense" lol, when first learning, 45% can feel like 75%...
As for sideflips, tuck. I recommend trying it over a foam block...First with your back rolling on it, and then completely over it...Other than that it's just getting the feeling;)

I know how to trick and do stuff to not over rotate it was just a simple mistake. everyone makes them even the best. im not trying to be mean i understand what your saying its just that ive been doing tricks for awhile so i know how to do that. but like i said i made a mistake and crashed :) no hard feelings
